Amateur Radio in the NY Finger Lakes Region
What is Amateur Radio, why it's a fun hobby and how to do it yourself ...
There are dozens of clubs all around the Finger Lakes region from Brockport to Ithaca and Rochester to Hornell and all spots in between ...
The list is kept live and updated every time the page is viewed.
(or, if your browser has a "client-pull" feature,
it will update itself automatically every 10 minutes.)
Dx means a "long distance" radio contact.
It's fun to talk long distance but it can be a pain scanning the dial
hunting down that rare contact.
To help out, some amateur radio operators report in and log
the Dx stations that they've heard so that others can more easily
find and talk to those stations too.
Alternate view:
Some hams think that finding the Dx stations is part of the
challenge of amateur radio operating.
They consider Dx reports to be nothing more than cheat-sheets.
aa2mz's point of view:
If you want the challange of finding the Dx stations yourself,
don't look here.
If spinning the dial doesn't give you jollies, take a peek.
Hamfests are amateur radio swap-meets.
Nearly every city, town, and village that has an amateur radio club also has a hamfest.
New and used radio equipment, computer stuff and bad food can be had.
Half the fun (at least) is meeting fellow hams face to face.
Transcripts of the popular amateur radio news show
that's heard on area repeaters are available for your online reading.
