iG's World Maker

Experimental!!!!

This is a work in progress that will eventually tie all the other instant map makers together. At this stage we are only attempting to make Earth-like worlds and there's still a way to go ... but we like this one and thought it might be usefull to game masters and world designers as is. The program is growing quickly, so please come back often and see our world maker evolve.

iG's eight World Maker project, the "Instant World Maker," builds oceans, continents, ice caps, terrain types (jungles, highlands, plains ...) and mountain ranges at the push of a button.

Moving Pains: We've had trouble porting Worldmaker to the new server. Rather than freeze the work on the other ports, we've simply put 40 pre-made worlds on the new server. We'll get back to the port (WorldMaker is our favorite!) but for now, you must enter a number between 1 and 40 ... only these pre-made worlds are available.

Note: The these worlds are based on a rapid plate tectonics / continental drift simulator ... The technique is not totaly stable and about one in twenty worlds shatter as they are created. Oops! If you get an error during world creatation, just try your luck again. The odds are in your favor ...

VRML note: The VRML link on the map pages uses wraps the GIF map onto a sphere. The spherical projection is only approximate (and a little fuzzy), but you will get a very good feel for the global nature of these worlds. You need a VRML viewer or plug-in for your browser to see these globes.

gd 1.2 from Quest Protein Database Center, Cold Springs Harbor Labs is used to image the map file in GIF format.
